About Helen Thornton

Helen has ridden from a very young age and being part of a pony club for numerous years she was a part of equestrian teams and the prince Phillip cup gymkhana team. Aged 14 she went onto to buy a thoroughbred out of racing, and enjoyed re-schooling him to go onto great success and a partnership. Watching him change shape, fitness levels and watching the way he moved enabled Helen to see rehabilitation with horses is what she wanted to do.

Helen then went to study equine science at Bishop Burton College and BrackenHurst College, whilst running her own yard taking in liveries and horses for backing. After competition riding in eventing, BSJA, county level WH and dressage Helen found herself working as a work rider for racing yards. Overall Helen had a wide range of experience across all disciplines. During race riding Helen acquired various injuries and by chance read about a muscular therapy called The Bowen Technique.

After her first treatment she was amazed and so pleased with the results to her own body, fate took over and she began her training on people. After a year training on people and qualifying in 2006 with the European college of Bowen studies Helen furthered her training with horses.

Helen went on to gain valuable experience in a range of techniques and has also studied with world renowned veterinary physiotherapist and author Mary Bromiley MBE.
