This page will hopefully give the information you need to know when it comes to the unique equine treatments that Helen offers.
Having trained in a wide range of modalities post Equine Science Foundation degree, and Sports therapy Diploma with Mary Bromiley, Helen is now embarking on her Equine Osteopathy EDO qualification, Helen’s treatments are described as unique to her as she has evolved throughout the last 15 years to the extent that she has a highly developed and individual way of reading the equine body. Her skills have developed since a very young child, being around horses & understanding them just brings that extra quality to her passion in helping horse owners get the best from their horse and a deeper understanding of their horses body and mind!
Helen uses a unique approach to the treatment of horses - from the inside out. So, treatments include the Visceral System as well as the Musculoskeletal System and Cranial Sacral .
Helen travels the whole of the UK and Europe. More distant destinations will require a minimum number of horses for Helen to make the trip. Host yards are welcomed, so please contact Helen to arrange.
In addition, Helen went to the USA to train in the application of High Intensity PEMF. High intensity PEMF used by qualified THERAPISTS only, provides an extra tool to a trained therapist to reach difficult areas and to help with soft tissue injuries, and to promote bone & joint healing. Helen`s PEMF system is an easily adjustable, high-powered device. This ability - to adjust the intensity - ensures the optimal level of power needed to a specific area and to receive immediate results. Therefore it is imperative that it is used by an already qualified therapist to achieve the best results for your money, and for the wellbeing of your horse. Helen’s PEMF is her 1st choice of equipment modality as it can reach deeper than any other machine, and can be used everywhere on the body. Helen has become a leading expert on understanding the best usage of PEMF so clients get the most reward from it. Of course Helen sometimes will need to only use her advanced hands on skills, rather than the combination & vice versa, this is always explained.
For most injuries, PEMF can be indicated as a daily treatment – such as soft tissue injury or post op. In this case horses can be brought to Helen @ DN21 4UQ for a course of treatment.
Helen also holds weekly clinics at her yard. This enables regular clients or new clients that have a more immediate request for a horse to be seen, to be able to always get to see Helen within days. This all round service means horse owners are very well looked after when added to Helens client list.
PEMF is a widely used therapy for improved wellbeing and enhanced performance of people and animals around the world. The UK is a little behind on the knowledge of PEMF so your vet or consultant may need to do their own research.
N.B. Helen Thornton assesses each horse on a case-by-case basis, only applying the optimum treatment modalities that are appropriate for an individual horse's current issues, temperament and readiness. Helen always assesses the whole horse and does not apply every tool in her box in every session. Instead, she selects those that can achieve the greatest return on your investment, and benefits to your horse's health, comfort and performance. Further sessions - applying different treatment modalities - may often be beneficial.
